Imatra Big Band

Imatra Big Band is a versatile and energetic jazz orchestra based in South Karelia, founded to strengthen the region’s big band culture and to offer musicians the opportunity to perform in a large ensemble. The orchestra is made up primarily of amateur musicians, but also includes music professionals and students, making the group both high-quality and inspiring.

Imatra Big Band’s repertoire is broad and diverse: concerts may feature classic swing music in the spirit of Count Basie or Duke Ellington, as well as modern compositions, film scores, and Finnish arrangements. The orchestra performs actively both in Imatra and across Finland, bringing together musicians from different generations to share their love of rhythm music. The band also regularly travels abroad, performing in Europe and even in more distant locations.

Imatra Big Band has performed at events such as the Imatra Big Band Festival, in collaboration with various soloists, and at a wide range of occasions—from corporate trade shows and gala evenings to topping-out ceremonies in heavy industry. The orchestra is committed to continuous development through regular rehearsals and workshops.
