Rissanen is one of the key figures in Finland’s big band scene. His expertise, international activity, and pedagogical role make him a significant presence in Finnish rhythm music. Although Rissanen has focused especially on rhythm music, he has also conducted numerous symphony orchestras over the past 15 years.

In addition to being a musician and conductor, Rissanen is also active in teaching and leading courses. At Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, he works as a lecturer in the pop/jazz wind instruments and orchestral conducting program. Rissanen also serves as the director of the Imatra Big Band Camp, held every summer. This internationally recognized big band music education event is open to everyone—from professional students to beginners. The course includes big band rehearsals, sectional instruction, lectures, and workshops led by both the course instructors and guest artists. Participants also have the opportunity to enjoy the concerts offered during the festival week.
